Woodward’s Jack McClung – Character Counts Presented By Great Plains Bank Woodward
- Updated: April 2, 2020
The Woodward Character Counts Honor goes to Jack McClung, a senior for the Boomer basketball team. McClung starts at shooting guard for Woodward averaging around 10 points per game. He describes his role as an energizer.
“I try to get everyone else going and try to get the whole team involved, I just try to keep the energy level up for our team,” said McClung.
Woodward is 12-7 so far this season and McClung says a big key to their success is chemistry.
“I think teamwork really helps us out a lot,” said McClung, “the fact that we play well together and also that we’re deep and play about ten guys, so that helps us stay fresh.”
With the good start to the season the Boomers have big goals for this season.
“Our ultimate goal is to make it to the State Tournament and see what we can do, it’s kind of a rebuilding year from last year, but we just want to keep getting better and ultimately win a State Championship,” said McClung.
A big part of what defines Jacks character is what he does for people off the court.
“Character is what defines you as a person,” said McClung, “that can go a lot of ways, but for me it’s who I am and what I am, I try to help people and make sure that they’re doing well, I like to put others before myself.”
Outside of basketball McClung has a 3.5 GPA and plans on becoming a fire fighter after high school because he has a passion for helping people.
