Guymon’s Naomi Aragonez – Character Counts Presented By First National Bank of Hooker

The Guymon Character Counts Honor goes to Naomi Aragonez, a sophomore basketball player for the lady tigers. Aragonez is having a terrific season averaging 13 points and 6 rebounds per game. “I don’t think I have one specific role,” said Aragonez, “I just play where I’m needed and I’m the leading scorer so just trying to put up good shots.”

Aragonez play has helped lead Guymon to an 11-8 record so far this season and she says teamwork is the key. “We just work really well together as a team, last season we weren’t so great at that, but this year that has really been a strength of ours,” said Aragonez.

With the good start and the way the team has been playing Aragonez says the lady tigers have big goals for the rest of the season. “Our goal this season is to make it to the State Tournament,” said Aragonez, “we just have to keep working hard and playing together as a team.”

Outside of basketball Aragonez plays volleyball and runs track. She made the varsity volleyball as a sophomore after playing for the first time during her freshman year, she also earned a starting spot. In track she runs the 4×400 and competes in the high jump. She was just two inches short of qualifying for State as a freshman. She is also a standout in the classroom with a 3.8 GPA. “Character to me is doing the right thing when no one is watching and just trying to be a good example to those around you by just making good decisions on and off the court,” said Aragonez.
