Covington-Douglas’ Elli Garcia – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Security National Bank Enid
- Updated: March 20, 2020
Sophomore Elli Garcia competes in every season sports are offered at Covington-Douglas. This fall, Garcia played first base on the Lady Wildcats fastpitch softball team. Covington-Douglas finished 19-12 as district champions for the second straight season before eventually falling short at the regional tournament.
Garcia is currently competing on the Lady Wildcats basketball team, where she plays at the post position. Garcia is a two-year starter and has stepped into a leadership role this season after Covington-Douglas graduated four seniors in 2019. Last season, the Lady Wildcats lost at districts but rallied to win three games at the regional tournament and advance to the area tournament.
In the spring, Garcia will compete on the slowpitch softball team where she started her freshman year, playing at second base. Like the fastpitch team, the Lady Wildcats won the district tournament in slowpitch last season.
Garcia credits her older sisters, Erica and Erin, for her continued success on the court and consistent work ethic off it. Both Erica and Erin also competed on the Covington-Douglas basketball teams.
“They attend my basketball games and have really helped me develop my game a lot,” Garcia said. “We’re always talking about things I need to work on.”
Outside of athletics, Garcia is a part of FCCLA and STUCO. Upon graduation, Garcia would like to attend medical school.
