Alva’s Garrett Ritter: Character Counts Athlete of the Month Presented By Holder Drug
- Updated: March 20, 2020
Alva senior Garrett Ritter is a multi-sport athlete who plays football, basketball, and track & field for the Goldbugs.
On the football field, Ritter plays on both sides of the ball at the wide receiver and defensive end positions, where he’s started since his sophomore year. Last season, Ritter was named to the all-district team in Class 5A and was crowned as Homecoming King. And he got to accomplish this alongside a friend and a coach.
“Someone who motivated me in sports was one of my good friends Hayden,” Ritter. “He ended up being an assistant coach for the football team this past year, and it was pretty cool because we went to high school together.”
This Spring, Ritter will compete in his final track & field season. Ritter’s made it to the State Meet every year since his freshman year and has made it in three events overall (high jump, 4x400m relay, and the high jump). Last season, Ritter made it to the podium in the 4x400m relay, where he was the first leg while also placing in the top 10 for the high jump.
Outside of sports, Ritter is the Vice President of STUCO, the Vice President of the National Honors Society, a member of Key Club, FCA, and FFA. Ritter is also a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Alva.
Upon graduation, Owens plans to attend Oklahoma State University to study ag business.
