Garber’s Ashlan Light – FFA Spotlight Presented by Farm Credit of Enid
- Updated: January 15, 2020
By Ember McElrath
Garber High School sophomore and FFA enthusiast, Ashlan Light, put on her first blue and gold jacket in the eighth grade. She grew up watching both of her older sisters be involved in FFA.
“Watching my sisters success spilled over on me and sparked my own passion for FFA,” said Ashlan. Ashlan is not just a one trick pony, she is also involved in basketball, runs cross county, track, is President of her class, and is an active member in their FCA Club.
FFA has many different activities and Ashlan is involved in several of them.
“I compete in public speaking contest, show pigs, and I am involved in community activities,” said Ashlan. Being involved in so many different activities can be a lot, but Ashlan stays motivated because she has big plans for herself.
“My motivation comes from me knowing what goals and dreams I aspire to obtain. To make my dreams become reality, I have to be dedicated and push myself to put in the extra work,” Ashlan said.
Being in FFA has given Ashlan many tools and strategies that will help her succeed in life.
“I think one of the biggest things you gain from being involved with FFA is the encouragement and courage you obtain to step out of your comfort zone,” said Ashlan.
Ashlan is already preparing for life after highschool.
“My ultimate plan, God-willing, after graduating highschool would be to continue my basketball career at a four year colleg while I study to be a radiologist,” Ashlan said.
