Alva’s Kaden Slater – Character Counts Presented by Community Bank
- Updated: December 2, 2019
By Ryan Stone
The Alva Character Counts honor goes to Kaden Slater, the sophomore quarterback for the GoldBug football team. He is in his first season as the full-time starter after three starts as a freshman. Through the first four games of the season he’s passed for 709 yards and eight touchdowns.
“I feel like I’ve played decent but could play better by limiting turnovers and being more efficient,” said Slater.
Alva is 2-3 so far this season, but Slater and the Gold Bugs still feel good about the rest of the season.
“We started off a little slower than I expected,” said Slater, “but I like where we’re going right now. If injuries don’t derail us, I think we’ll be okay. The goal for this team is to win the district and make the playoffs, we just need to be more efficient and quit turning the ball over.”
Slater says the Gold Bugs have been led this season by a good group of seniors on the offensive side of the ball. He just tries to do his part when he needs to lead.
Though Slater is just a sophomore it’s evident on and off the field that character is something that’s important to him.
“Character means no matter how good or bad things are just how you project yourself to others whether things are going good or bad just always trying to stay positive. I also think for me it’s just being a leader on and off the field,” said Slater.
Outside of football Slater also plays basketball and baseball for Alva. He’s a standout student as well with a 4.0 GPA. Kaden also shows pigs for the Alva FFA. After high school he plans on attending college.
