Being a freshman doesn’t intimidate Riley Hensley when it comes to getting involved in Cherokee High School sports and activities. Riley is involved in Future Farmers of America, 4-H, softball, cheer, cross-country, basketball, track, FCA, academic team, and she is the Vice President for her class on top of everything else.

Riley not only plays softball for her school she also plays for a traveling team. Being a versatile player who can change position depending on what the team needs is important and that is just what Riley does. Riley plays short-stop, third base, and pitcher.

Being on a team has taught Riley plenty of lessons, but most importantly that it is all about teamwork.

“Teamwork is key, each member of a team must stay positive and supportive of their fellow teammates,” Riley said.

She is also one that knows what hard work is all about.

“If a team works hard together than it will show on the field,” said Riley.

Respect is a lesson that takes you a long way in the game and in life and Riley makes sure to show respect to everyone she encounters. Softball has taught Riley all about, “sportsmanship and to respect other people, I have many friends that play on the opposing teams,” said Riley. Hard work are two words that Riley is well versed.

“I work hard during practice and put in extra practice to achieve my goals,” said Riley.

This softball season Riley is looking forward to her team growing and improving together as a unit and getting to know her teammates even better. Being a freshman doesn’t stop Riley from looking toward her future. She would love to play softball in college and that is one reason she got so dedicated to softball and plays throughout most of the year.
