The Guymon Tigers head cheer coach Mandy Coble says that her squad has a lot of great qualities, but one of the biggest is their commitment to the sport. “Dedication is always a strength for our team,” she said. “Most of our girls are multi-sport athletes and it takes a lot of commitment to also cheer.”

That dedication has developed into awards for the Tigers’ cheer squad. In 2017, they placed third at the OSSAA GameDay 5A Championship. They also won several awards at the Universal Cheerleaders Association Camp in June. Those include first place in the Game Day Performance, first place in Band Chant, Spirit sticks, and Superior Ribbons, All-American cheerleader, and a tradition award.

One of the team captains, Anessa Lucero, says she enjoys promoting school spirit and bonding with her teammates.  “I enjoy cheering at the football and basketball games,” she said. “Also leading everyone to have school spirit and encouraging everyone to go to the game and support the Tigers and Lady Tigers. I love trying new things with our squad and trying to make our squad better.  And just hanging out with all of the girls, It’s really fun.”

Coach Coble says that while her squad is great when cheering, she also knows that they are equally as great when they are not cheering. “Guymon truly has the best cheerleaders as far as leaders in the classroom, on the field or court, and within the community.  They are a great group of girls that I love being around and enjoy watching them grow.”

The team is also involved in a variety of community projects, including Angel Tree Christmas shopping, the PTSO Fall Carnival, and the Pioneer Day Parade.

JaKara Devorce, cheer team captain, loves everything about cheering. “I love supporting my team and making the crowd get hyped about the game,” she said. “I also like when the football boys get excited that we are all cheering for them. I have grown up with most of the girls and I just love them all.  I love to cheer and that we want our squad to be better.”
