Alva’s Zayin Tiger – Character Counts Presented by K&S Tire

By Ryan Stone

The Alva Character Counts honor goes to Zayin Tiger a junior football player for the Goldbugs. This Fall Tiger is expected to play a significant role in the Alva passing game.

“I’d like to get four to five receptions a game, catch two to three touchdowns this season, be named offensive player of the week and make it to state,” said Tiger.

As a sophomore Tiger caught just three passes, but this offseason he’s been putting in work to improve.

“I’ve been working on catching the ball and avoiding drops,” said Tiger, “route running getting that down and getting off the ball fast.”

Playing fast is a new slogan for the entire Alva team this season.

“We want to be faster and more physical than anyone else, so we’re working on that and trying to get to the playoffs and win the title this year,” said Tiger.

With only four seniors on the team Tiger and some of the other juniors are expected to help lead this Fall.

“I’m trying to help the younger guys with receiving and route running,” said Tiger, “and help them with their schoolwork and just to make good choices all around.”

It shows in his leadership how much character means to Zayin.

“Character is something I cherish, to me it’s an essential part of life. The way we treat others and show respect and just how we go about life in general. Character is very important to me,” said Tiger.

Outside of football Tiger also runs track for the Goldbugs. As a sophomore he helped the 4×400 team place fifth at state and helped the 4×100 team qualify for state.

Zayin performs in the classroom as well with a 3.5 GPA. After high school he wants to go to college to become a mechanical engineer.
