Alva’s Cameryn Decker – Character Counts Presented by Holder Drug
- Updated: September 11, 2019
By Ember McElrath
Cameryn Decker is a junior at Alva High School where she is a trainer for the football team, plays for the varsity soccer team, and was in band her freshman and sophomore years. She started training when she entered her freshman year after a coach asked her if she would be interested in training for team. She knew immediately it was something she was interested in.
There are several things she loves about being a trainer for the football team, one of them being how close she feels to the team.
“It gives a feeling of having a second family, we feel like we have a whole team of brothers,” stated Decker.
Decker enjoys seeing firsthand how the team progresses during each season.
Decker is just as dedicated to her team as all of the players. During the season she is at every team practice and team event, such as meals, scrimmages, charity events, and even participates in watching some of the team’s films on weekends. During the summer she also helps out with the teams strength and conditioning program.
Decker wants fans to know how dedicated she is to her team.
“I think a lot of people don’t realize how much time, work, and effort we as trainers put in after hours and behind the scenes,” stated Decker. The coaches rely a lot on their trainers to make sure everything runs smoothly for them.
“We make sure they have what they need, when they need it, so that they can get their jobs done on the field,” stated Decker. Even with the amount of work she puts in to the team she knows it is all worth it in the end.
“The reward is definitely worth it, being part of this team is great,” stated Decker.
Decker would love the opportunity to train in college, stating, “if the opportunity comes for me to be able to be a trainer in college I would definitely take it.”
