Alva’s Jasmine Telinde – Character Counts Presented by Community Bank

By Ryan Stone

The Alva Character Counts honor goes to sophomore fast pitch player Jasmine Telinde. Last season Telinde contributed on a Lady Gold Bugs team that finished with a record of 9-4, but after graduating eight seniors, more will be expected as a sophomore.

“Right now, my main goal is to be really the best player and teammate that I can be, coach is also working on me pitching more,” said Telinde.

As a freshman Telinde was a utility player and played wherever Alva needed her.

“Really, I just stay open minded about where coach wants to put me,” said Telinde, “and wherever she puts me I just go and do my best.”

The loss of so many upperclassmen will also leave a void for leadership. A role Telinde plans to help fill.

“Trying to lead I’ll be trying to play the best I can to lead the younger girls by example and just show them that you just try your hardest win or lose and at the end of the day you can’t really get mad at your teammates cause it’s just a game,” said Telinde.

Despite being young Alva still hopes to have another strong season with their young players.

“The team goal right now is to have all of the people that can play a spot really well have them comfortable in that spot,” said Telinde, “and then just boost the underclassmen and give them courage.”

Whether it’s on or off the field character is clearly something that means a lot to Telinde.

“Character I believe is showing the best part of yourself going forward and being willing and ready to do anything for someone that needs your help or to lead and be there,” said Telinde.

Outside of fast pitch Telinde also plays basketball and plans to play soccer this spring. She is involved in the Spanish club, Science club and has a 3.5 GPA. Jasmine also sings in the show choir “Electric Gold”.

Jasmine Telinde is well deserving of the Alva Character Counts spotlight.
