In his first season at the helm of the OBA Trojans, Chris Cayot is eager to get the team on the field. “We are excited about the upcoming season,” Cayot said. “Building on a good season last year, we have several returning starters looking forward to a great season. We also have some good young players ready to contribute to our team.” Last season’s head coach, Jay Mendenhall, will remain on staff as the team’s associate head coach. VYPE Top-100 selectee Baron Winter (6-2, 210, Sr.) will start at quarterback, where he threw for 1,571 yards and 15 touchdowns a year ago. His play is crucial for the offensive unit. Jett Cheatham (5-7, 155, Jr.) and Connor Colby (5-10, 160, Jr.) are two targets Winter will look for in the passing game. Caleb Spann (5-9, 185, Sr.) will tote the rock full time this season. Last year he gained 339 yards and scored five rushing touchdowns. The line will feature Andrew Francis (5-8, 190, Sr.) at guard and Morgan Meyer (5-11, 260, Jr.) at center. Seven starters make their return to the offense for the Trojans.

Spann is one of a few players going both ways for the Trojans this season. At linebacker, Spann recorded 75 tackles a year ago and is looking to increase his productivity this season. Colby is another player pulling double duty. Last year Colby grabbed three interceptions while Cheatham had a pick to go with his five fumble recoveries and four forced fumbles. Cole Davis (6-0, 210, So.) will start at defensive tackle. Davis accounted for 27.5 tackles in 2018 with five TFLs. Giovanni Bartolozzi (6-1, 220, So.) joins Davis on the line and will start at end. Bartolozzi had 20 tackles a year ago. Cooper Thornton (6-2, 180, Jr.) is another secondary player for the Trojans. In 2018, Thornton had five pass break-ups. The Trojans’ coaching staff includes Todd Wilson, James Cheatham, Jay Mendenhall, Jared Pitchford, Jason Wamock, Clay Henderson and Brett Thornton.
