Enid’s Angel Neri: Soccer Player of the Month – Presented by Lyle Nickel AAA Insurance

Enid High School senior Angel Neri has been playing soccer for about seven years now, and says he has loved the sport ever since he touched the ball.

“What first got me interested in this sport is my family played it, and I started to love it the minute I started playing it,” said Neri.

Neri is the goalkeeper for the Plainsmen, and is very proud to represent his hometown with his team on the field. He plays to make his family proud.

“What I like the most about competing for my high school and community is that I get to be a role model for the kids in our town and I get to play with my wonderful friends and represent the beautiful town of Enid, Oklahoma,” he said. “What motivates me is making my family proud and knowing we are representing a great community.”

Neri says that his senior season has really been something special.

“This season is different; it’s like a dream come true,” he said. “All my teammates and I have wanted to make playoffs since eighth grade and we talked about this year being the year to make it. The team has never been so connected like we are now. We are like brothers.”

Neri admires his family very much, as well as the coaches he’s had over the years. He strives to learn lessons from those around him to better himself on and off the field.

“I look up to my dad, Lorenzo, my mom, Maria, and my brother, Jose,” he said. “They have turned me into the person I am right now. All of the coaches I have had for turning me into a good person and soccer player. I also look up to Estiven Escobedo, Victor Hernandez, and Coach Kelly Earhart for always pushing me to be the best goalkeeper I can be.”

Aside from his high school team, Neri plays for Enid soccer club and Southlakes Cosmos. He is also in a community service club and volunteers for Special Olympics at Enid High School. After graduation he plans on attending college and continuing his soccer career.
