Drummond’s Jared Swart: Most Outstanding Baseball Coach – Presented by Stevens Ford
- Updated: May 20, 2019
By Jay Hoberecht
The Drummond Bulldogs, under head coach Jared Swart, remain on a roll. Swart has the Drummond baseball program at an all-time peak. The Bulldogs lost in the Class B State Championship game to Roff 11-7 this season. Heartbroken, yes! But this program has continued to get better and has made four straight trips to the state tournament. Drummond baseball has been to the Class B state championship game in the 2018 spring and fall seasons and again this spring. Drummond lost to Red Oak in the semi-final game of 2017 fall season.
“What they (seven seniors) have done is extremely special for the school and the community. Even not winning,” Swart commented.
During the four seasons, the seven seniors helped Drummond baseball advance to five combined state tournaments (fall and spring), including those three appearances in the championship game.
Jared Swart, the Stevens Ford Coach of the Month, has a passion for coaching baseball and helping young men grow and achieve their potential. Swart’s high school coach, Hall of Fame coach Doug Crawford called him “one of the best all-around players he ever coached in thirty years.” Crawford added that his personality and drive made him successful as a player and a coach.
Swart takes a business-like approach to the game of baseball. He wants his teams to be fundamentally sound in all three phases of the game, offense, and defense and pitching. He strives to know his players so he can challenge them to be the best they can be in sports and life.
Coach Swart is optimistic the returning players will be able to continue to the program’s success.
“I hope and expect to be competitive again next year, even graduating seven, he said. “What these guys have done, what comes back I hope expects to do the same thing. That’s the hope, is the future groups carry on what this group did.”
Coach Swart does it the right way and expects Drummond to be back in the baseball playoffs in the fall.
