Alva’s Jonathan Heinsen – Athlete Spotlight Presented by Holder Drug

Alva High School varsity soccer player Jonathan Heinsen said the 2019 soccer season was a tough one for the Alva Goldbugs, but regardless of the finish, he feels they worked hard and is thankful for his teammates.

“They are like a family to me. They are always there to pick me up. They make me a better person,” said Heinsen. “I love that I get to represent my school and I love all the support from the community.”

A multi-sport athlete at Alva, Heinsen is big on being a good teammate and working towards a collective goal with his teammates.

“Being part of a team means working together to achieve a common goal whether that’s working on drills or running sprints or even winning a game. Getting to represent my school not just on the field but around town means a lot to me,” said Heinsen.

Heinsen has played soccer for the last three seasons while playing football and basketball for the Goldbugs. Through each season, one aspect of being a student-athlete is always a priority for Heinsen.

“Academics are one of the most important things to me. Academics come before sports and hanging out with friends,” said Heinsen who is also a member of the Key Club.

After graduating from Alva High School, Heinsen plans on going to college and pursuing a degree.

“I plan on going to Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a degree in nursing,” said Heinsen.

When he’s not hitting the books or competing for Alva High School, you can find him spending his free time hunting and fishing. He also enjoys playing video games with his friends.
